A big Designer house has just had a Major Release…

Modern Creation Munich, or MCM, is a luxury fashion brand that prides itself on loud, streetwear-esque styling. When I received the email that they were releasing their first fragrance of the 2020s, I was through the roof! I have always been a fan of loud, in-your-face scents and I expected MCM to do just that.
Let’s set the scene
After receiving the email, I immediately reached out to MCM Toronto and scheduled an appointment to smell and eventually purchase the fragrance. MCM explained the scent as having a note breakdown of Raspberry and Apricot top notes, Hand-Picked Jasmine, White Peony and Violet Leaf as middle notes and White Moss, Vanilla, Sandalwood and Sheer Ambroxan as base notes.
Packaging
The bottle is titled MCM Eau de Parfum and is unisex. The fragrance is available in 10, 30, 50 and 75 ml sizes. The higher volume fragrances are packaged in their classic Stark backpack featuring the Visetos monogram print, heritage hardware and top handle.
The atomiser is fairly good, spraying a bit too straight like a jet stream for my liking but, from the correct distance, it coats the skin very well. I enjoy the fact that the atomiser is located under the buckle of the bag. Overall, this is an aesthetically pleasing bottle, making this almost worth buying for the packaging itself.
How it smells
Right off the bat, you are met with a very sweet, powerful whiff of Raspberry, Sandalwood and Ambroxan. The associate at the store was preaching how good the use of Raspberry was and how interesting it is. I couldn’t agree more!
The scent transitions with very sweet opening notes, but calms down due to the use of Sandalwood. As well, it moves away from fruity, artificial sweetness into a more natural, botanical sweetness which I attribute to the White Peony and Moss.
One item that needs to be addressed is the thickness of the smell. I have smelt god knows how many fragrances at this point, but this MCM scent was thick and almost seemed to clog my nose when smelling it!
Performance and Intangibles
MCM EDP lasted on my skin between 8-10 hours, with a moderate to light projection.
What I really enjoyed about the scent was the fact that it smelt the exact same from hours 0.5 through 6. The botanical sweetness carried on for a very long time which I was very pleased with.
The scent ranges from $35-82 CAD depending on the size you purchase. As with most scents, I would recommend purchasing the largest size as the price difference between the various sizes are negligible $18-20 CAD.
This fragrance is most definitely a summer scent but can be worn between spring and warmer fall months. It is definitely a contender for a signature scent if you’re looking for sweetness and to stand out from the crowd.
My Thoughts
I really enjoyed this scent and I would give it a rating of 7.5/10. It is definitely not my favourite sweet fragrance, nor is it my favourite fragrance for the summer. But, I can’t get over the uniqueness of the scent and just how appealing it is.
As it is a unisex fragrance, I would have expected more feminine features, almost giving me a Moschino Toy Boy vibe. The rose in Toy Boy and Raspberry in MCM EDP are similar in theory, but different in practice.
I wouldn’t regard this scent as fresh or clean so beware of what situation you wear it in. I experimented with it during day-to-day activities, date night and general fun in the sun. In the end, I believe I can deem it as a warmer month-specific scent, that can be worn on casual occasions.
All in all, I would recommend this scent for anyone searching for a cologne with botanical and fruity sweetness which isn’t overbearing upon dry-down. As well, this is a perfectly marketed bottle that will look nice as decoration in your house once the bottle is depleted.
