How to make fragrances last forever…

Hey winners,

Ok, so its difficult to make scents last ‘forever’ per se but there are definitely tricks up our ‘frag head’ sleeves at our disposal! Clickbait title aside, there are some beautiful scents out there with disappointing performance. A few off the top of my head:

  • Dolce & Gabbana the One

  • Carolina Herrera Men privé

  • Giorgio Armani’s Acqua di Gio

  • Yves Saint Laurent La nuit de l’homme

You probably have one or two aftershaves in your collection that have disappointed in this department too! Here’s how you fight against poor performance…

Apply on clothes

We begin with the most known fragrance ‘hack’. It is true, applying on your clothes makes a fragrance makes it last a lot longer due to garments producing a lot less heat and fragrance molecules being ‘trapped’ in the fibres.

Bear in mind, the higher the concentration of your cologne, the more likely it is to stain your clothes! Make sure you are always applying from a distance, like an arm’s length, and be prepared for that scent to stick to your clothing item for potentially weeks!

You NEED to moisturise

Apart from protecting your epidermis against the upcoming cold weather, moisturisers also promote scent longevity! Fragrances don’t do well on dry skin… Applying a moisturiser as a ‘base’ before applying your perfume will lead to the scent being more ‘trapped’ and will ‘push’ off your skin longer than usual!

I personally use Aveeno (no, they aren’t sponsoring this post!), they are a bit more pricey but I find they result in a ‘non-greasy’ feel and are not scented, perfect for the cologne connoisseur!

Iso-E-Super

Now this stuff is magical. Iso-e-super is actually a fragrance base note commonly used in perfumery to give a fragrance increased longevity and structural integrity in order for a perfumer to increase versatility in his composition.

On its own? It smells like a ‘woody musk’ on men and a ‘sweet floral’ on women (from my experience). This will get you a surprising amount of compliments on its own although you can barely detect it on yourself all day!

Apply this is a base, wait a few minutes for it to dry then apply your short-lived fragrance. This usually adds a few extra hours of performance but it does alter the scent slightly.

Keep an atomiser

Your portable friend…

Your portable friend…

If all else fails, you can always simply purchase an atomiser online and keep 5-10 ml of your favourite scent with you at all times and reapply when necessary. Keep this in your pockets or a secret drawer in your office, your fragrance drawer you might say…

Conclusion

There you have it! Those are my four tips for extending your fragrance’s life! Have I missed any? Let me know if this article helped you or if there are any other tips people should know about!

Until next time,
