My Top 3 Fragrances of 2020

Do you feel this year has gone super quick…or not quick enough?

Do you feel this year has gone super quick…or not quick enough?

Let’s face it. 2020 was not it. Many of us have had a tough time during this unprecedented time. If you have been going through any difficulties, I hope you don’t feel alone and at least know you have a fragrance family here for you!

On a light hearted note, it has been difficult to get compliments now more than ever with everyone wearing masks and working from home! However, is it not more important to wear a scent for our own enjoyment anyway?

Its not all been doom & gloom this year, I know myself and yourself reading this have made some phenomenal fragrance discoveries this year! What’s been your no.1 fragrance discovery this year?

This top 3 list won’t be necessarily of fragrances that have been released in 2020, simply ones that I only discovered this year, let’s get in to it!

3 - Chanel Allure Homme Sport

Eau extreme is sooo 2019!

Eau extreme is sooo 2019!

Believe it or not, I only first experienced this 2004 creation this year! Have you ever had a fragrance quickly shoot up your top complimented list within a few months of owning?

The Eau Extreme version was one of the first fragrances I owned, it is a great fragrance but didn’t garner too many compliments (which, again, is ok, I’m not hurt I promise…), however I instantly preferred the original allure Homme when I acquired it!

This is more ‘fresh’ than eau extreme and to summarise this scent in one word, it is balanced. This is one of those fragrances that gives you insane value for money for how versatile it is as a ‘day time’ scent.

This works all the way from a daily school scent all the way to a wedding scent! Also, it has strong performance of 8 hours longevity with moderate projection!

2 - D&G K EDP

Is this fit for a King?

Is this fit for a King?

The original King EDT got a lot of hate. I personally thought it was a pleasant release. It started off with a ‘bubblegum’ DNA and then dried down to an interesting aromatic/fresh ‘barbershop’ scent (soapy clean).

The Eau de Parfum (released 2019) makes it even better! It adds interesting notes in here like pimento (bell) pepper and fig. It is a ‘bright’ and sexy fragrance that I think works great in warm weather and has excellent longevity of 10 hours!

It has synthetic notes that smell very modern that I believe will be in a lot more fragrance in the 20s. I wouldn’t say this is a ‘king’s’ scent but it smells like something a flirtatious playboy would wear in summer…

1 - Parfums de Marly’s Carlisle

This is blowing my mind…

This is blowing my mind…

I honestly see Parfums de Marly Layton as a 10/10 fragrance. But if you think Layton is the best fragrance from the Parfums de Marly brand, you’d be wrong. It’s this.

Ok so this goes in a slightly different direction to Layton but they share a very similar ‘ spiced apple pie’ base. They both smell delicious! Whereas Layton goes in more of a ‘powdery fresh’ direction, Carlisle stays dark, deep and mysterious…

This is Layton with added nutmeg and patchouli. This smells more ‘mature’ on the opening but my goodness the dry down. is. perfect.

Definitely the greatest scent I have discovered this year, after hearing so much hype about it and having all expectations blown away!

This is pricy but this will guarantee you have the best from the brand. (and of course, always try before you buy 😉 )

Finishing Thoughts

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

The main thing I want to say is a massive thank you for everything this year. School of Scent only came in to existence in March and has already received an overwhelming amount of support that I did not expect.

Hopefully we have been able to provide relief of some kind during these difficult times and hope we helped you appreciate the finer things in life, like smelling incredible!

What will you be wearing as your Scent of the Day this Christmas? Stay tuned to next week’s blog, where we discuss Fragrance Resolutions to set for New Year…

Until next time,

Omar
